Classic

Primary symptoms: inattentiveness, disctractibility, hyperactivity, disorganization, impulsivity,

Decreased actiity in prefrontal cortex during concentration task.

Decreased blood flow in prefrontal cortex, cerebellum, basal ganglia, last of which helps produce dopamine.

Treatment: Boost dopamine levels. Stimulants, physical activity, fish oil (higher in EPA than DHA)

Inattentive

Low activity in prefrontal cortex, low dopamine. Short attention span, disctractability, disorganization, procrastination. Can be intriverted, daydream.

Treatment: Boost dopamine. Supplements, L-tyrosine, stimulants. High proteine, low carb diet. Excercise.

Overfocused

All of core symptoms, plus great trouble shifting attention. Get stuck or locked into negative thought patterns or behaviours. Deficieny of serotonin and dopamine. Too much activityin anterior cingulate gyrus (the brains gear shifter) → difficulty going from thought to thought, task to task, begin flexible.

Treatment: Boost serotonine and dopamine. Tricky. Get more anxious and worried on stimulants. Supplements; L-tryptophan, 5-HTP, saffron, inositol. If supplements dont work, effexor, pristique, cymbalta. Avoid high-protein, can make patients mean.

Note: "can make patients mean" adds to the impression of this not being too serious.

Temporal Lobe

Symptoms: Core symptoms + temporal lobe symptoms. Temporal lobe is involved with memory, learning, mood stability, visual processing of objects. Trouble with learning, memory, behaviour (quick anger, aggression, mild paranoia) Decreased activity in prefrontal cortex, abnormalities in temporal lobes. Treatment: [[GABA]] to calm. Magnesium for anxiety, irritability. For learning and memory; ginkgko, vinpocetine

Limbic

Looks like combination of dysthymia or chronic low-level sadness and ADD Symptoms: moodiness, low energy, frequent feelings of helplessness, excessive guilt, low self-esteem. Not a mood disorder; limbic add is caused by too much activity in limbic part of brain (mood control center) and decreased prefrontal cortex activity. Treatment: Supplements DL-phenylananine (DLPA), [[tyrosine]], SAMe (s-adenosyl-methionine). Wellbutrin (favourite of author). Imipramine also option. Excercise, fish oil, right nutrition plan.

Ring of Fire

Symptoms: hypersensitivity (light, noise, touch). Periods of oppositional behaviour, unpredictable moods, talking fast, worrying, obsessiveness. Underactive prefrontal cortex. Treatment: Stimulants can worsen. Foods can trigger. Supplements, guanfacine, clonidine

Anxious

Symptoms: anxious, tense, physical stress symptoms (headaches, stomachaches), predict the worst, freeze in anxiety-provoking situations (esp. when they may be judged). High activity in basal ganglia (produce dopamine) Treatment: >Boost GABA and dopamine. Stimulants alone make them more anxious. Imipramine, desipramine for anxiety. Neruofeedback.
